Our squad is both hard-working and professional and you can be confident that they will never leave a job half-done or incomplete. The tools they use will also be up-to-date and the rats will certainly not have a chance to escape through the holes they have created, as we know the value of not allowing even one to stay behind so that they don't have a chance to breed again.

We New York's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical Westchester rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most Westchester pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:
- Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
- Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
- Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
- Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
- Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
- When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires
Westchester Rodent Removal Tip:
Ways to Get Rats Out of My Garage
If your garage is piled up with old boxes, if you've got pallets of plant pots or containers of tools, then you're at risk of rats. Contrary to popular opinion, rats are cautious. They're ‘neophobic' meaning scared of new things. That means they often avoid houses full of people. But a garage full of dark and secluded spaces is an ideal breeding ground for an infestation.
From there, the rats may spill over into your home. Then, you aren't only dealing with one rat, but a whole swarm. Don't wait for it to get to dire levels. Don't risk your garage and home.
Instead, follow these tips to keep your garage rat-free, permanently.
Know the signs of rats
Rats will aim to avoid people. There could be numerous rats hiding in your garage. But you'll never see them. Instead, look for the signs. The most obvious giveaway is the presence of rat droppings. Avoid getting too close, but notice if they are wet and dark or greyish and dry. These are clear indications of how many rats are living in the area.
Chewing sounds and gnaw marks are definitive signs of rats, as is the presence of urine. You may also notice a foul smell and may even come across a nest when moving stuff.
What attracts rats
Prevention is always better than cure. Preventing rats from building a nest is better than trying to remove it. It'll also stop them from coming back, once you've gotten rid of a nest. Here are the main attractants to consider:
- Water: Like all creatures, rats need to drink. Leaky pipes or puddles of water can provide a steady supply of water.
- Food: Store fruits and vegetables in your garage? Have bags or boxes of food? Rats can and will eat this.
- Clutter: Between two boxes or amongst the clutter, it is warm and protects from predators. For rats, it is the perfect home.
- Nesting residue: Rats leave behind a residue from their nests. Therefore, past infestations lead to new ones, as rats smell the scent and return.

Now that you know why they're coming, learn how to get rid of them.
Clear out the garage
The main aim should be to clear out the garage. Once cleared, clean thoroughly with detergent – you want to remove all remaining residue. Fill in all potential entry points.
You can then consider placing rat poison down or laying traps (see below). If there are burrows, these may need to be flooded, killing the rats inside. But have a trap ready to catch any rats that try to escape.
Cats are also good rat-deterrents. Being natural predators, they keep numbers down and ward off any potential infestations.
Use a trap
There are a few commonly used traps that get results:
- One-way exclusion funnel: If you've sealed up the holes in the garage, then you can use this device to trap the rats as they leave. Rats can exit through the final entry point, but they can't get back in.
- Glue trap: Place bait on the trap and leave. The strong adhesive traps catch the rat and prevent them from leaving. Remember to collect the traps regularly, to avoid an inhumane death from starvation or thirst.
- Snap trap: The classic rat trap. If disturbed, it leads to a heavy steel bar clamping down on the rodent, killing them instantly.
